X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter Review

Portable e-scooter’s are one of the most space-efficient micro-mobility devices that money can buy. Their foldable nature makes them the ideal option for riders who have limited storage space.

But what if we told you that there’s an electric scooter that can be collapsed in more ways than the regular foldable e-scooter. An electric scooter that is not bound by the width of its handlebars.

Enter the Turboant X7 Max electric scooter: A 350W e-scooter that comes with removable handlebars, which make it easier to collapse the scooter into a smaller size. The scooter’s not perfect though; it does not come with suspension.

If that doesn’t sound like a deal breaker, join us as we break down all the specs of this budget-friendly electric scooter.

Complete breakdown of the Turboant X7 Max Electric Scooter

Motor and Power

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Motor and Power

The Turboant X7 Max electric scooter comes equipped with a 350W front hub-motor. This motor is capable of propelling the scooter to a top speed of 20mph (32kmh) and powering it up hills as steep as 15 degrees.

It’s also a very zippy scooter (for an electric scooter in this price range, the Turboant X7 Max does pack a heavy punch). If you’re not careful it’ll take off from under you.

Range

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Battery

The Turboant X7 Max electric scooter comes with a 36V 10Ah lithium-ion battery that guarantees up to 32 miles (52 km) of range on a single charge. These numbers can be affected by rider weight and a number of other factors though.

For instance, you will be able to cover around 16 miles in the scooter’s highest speed setting (Sport mode). Riding in Comfort mode will allow you to cover even more distance – 20.5 miles.

So, depending on your weight and riding style, expect between 15 and 30miles of range on a single charge of the Turboant X7 Max. The scooter’s battery takes about 6 hours to charge from empty to full and can be detached from the unit’s frame for safe keeping.

Ride Smoothness

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Ride Smoothness

The Turboant X7 Max electric scooter does not come with suspension. It does come with air-filled tires which swallow up small road irregularities. We were hoping that Turboant would install some form of suspension on the X7 Max seeing as all other electric scooters in this series don’t have suspension.

Weight Limit and Net Weight

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Weight Limit and Net Weight

If you’re an overweight rider who has been looking for a portable commuter e-scooter that’s sturdy enough to support heavy loads, you may have struck gold. The Turboant X7 Max electric scooter is capable of holding up to 275 lbs (125 kg) of weight. What’s even more impressive about the scooter’s frame is that it weighs just 34.2 lbs (15.5 kg).

Display and Controls

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Display and Controls

The Turboant X7 Max comes with a simple LCD device that displays the scooter’s speed, battery level (in blocks), and speed mode. Riders can also tweak the X7 Max’s cruise control settings and max speed from this frame-integrated device.

Turning, Control, and Balance

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Disc Brake

The Turboant X7 Max is a solidly built electric scooter. It handles well and doesn’t wobble under high speeds. You might, however, need to tighten the folding mechanism every now and then as it tends to get loose with frequent use.

It also comes with a deck large and spacious enough to accommodate the average person’s feet. Another decent quality of the Turboant X7 Max is responsive braking.

The Turboant X7 Max electric scooter is equipped with a disc brake and an electronic braking system that provide enough power to bring the scooter to an immediate halt.

Water Resistance

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Water Resistance

The Turboant X7 Max electric scooter has a water-resistance rating of IPX4. The letter after “IP” (in this case, X) denotes the level of protection the electric scooter’s components have against ingress from solid objects.

“X” is given to electronic devices that haven’t been tested against this standard. The number after “X”, “4” in this case, encodes the scooter’s level of resistance to water and other liquid matter.

The Turboant X7 Max is resistant to water splashed from any direction. This makes it suitable for riding under light rain.

Suspension and Tire

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Suspension and Tire

Like most budget-friendly e-scooter’s available on the market today, the Turboant X7 Max does not come with suspension. This shouldn’t be too much of a problem for riders as long as they don’t take the scooter off-roading.

It does come with 10-inch pneumatic tires that might be able to absorb the effects of riding over small road irregularities.

Upgrades and Accessories

X7 Max Folding Electric Scooter: Handlebar-mounted Headlight

The X7 Max electric scooter is supposed to be an upgrade from the X7 Pro, but the only aspect where I see any real improvement is in the area of comfort. The X7 Max comes with a longer deck and a higher stem than the Pro, making it a good fit for a wider range of riders.

Besides the difference in size, the X7 Max comes electric scooter with a battery locking system that prevents just about anyone from removing (and possibly stealing) your battery. It (the X7 Max) comes with a handlebar-mounted headlight, a rear light, cruise control functionality, a bell, removable handlebars, and a kickstand – all of which come standard on the X7 Pro.

Pros & Cons of the Turboant X7 Max Electric Scooter

Pros

  • The scooter’s handlebars can be removed to make it more compact.
  • It is a lightweight scooter.

Cons

  • It has no suspension.
  • The tires might need to be pumped regularly. The tube inside the tire can get pinched which would result in a flat.
  • It’s hard to reach the scooter’s kickstand.

Who’s the Turboant X7 Max Electric Scooter For

The Turboant X7 Max is a great electric scooter for college students, city commuters, teenage riders, frugal enthusiasts, etc. It’s pretty much designed for anyone that’s looking for a decent low-powered e-scooter at an affordable price.

Who’s the Turboant X7 Max Electric Scooter Not For

I would not recommend the Turboant X7 Max to anyone who likes high-performance electric scooters – it’s powerful, but not that powerful. It’s also not suitable for off-road riding (the scooter’s tires and overall build does not support riding over loose or bumpy terrain).
