What Is The Cheapest Electric Scooter?

How Much Do Electric Scooters Cost?: [Never Over Pay]

You can get an electric scooter for almost any price, though the budget option is on average cost less than $300, and the price can go as low as $100.

Either way, when selecting a scooter based on the price, you must be aware you get what you pay for.

While it doesn’t exactly mean you’ll get a flimsy scooter, a cheap scooter means you lack some of the bells and whistle of some of the premium models.

The cheap scooters are also not as reliable as the premium options, meaning you’ve to be extra cautious about how you handle them, especially when handling the rough terrain.

However, if well taken care of, the cheap electric scooters can last for long, offering incredible performance.

Electric Scooters for Kids

Two words should define a cheap electric scooter for kids-appearance and durability.

Kids care about things, and one of them is the appearance-how does their electric scooter look, and will it impress their friends?

Secondly, consider the reliability of the electric scooter. Despite the price tag and quality limitations, you still need an electric scooter that will weather the rugged use and one which won’t break down after a few uses.

Electric Scooters for Adults

Always consider the weight capacity when choosing a cheap electric scooter for adults.

It’s easy to get suckered into purchasing a super cheap electric scooter without considering whether it can support your weight.

Additionally, it would also help see if the electric scooter has some durability for reliable performance.

Electric Scooters for Teens

Cheap electric scooters for teens should not only be durable but easy to use, especially if you’re a beginner.

The electric scooters should have superior controllability, letting you handle them effortlessly.

It will also help if the scooter has a better battery performance for more speed and greater mile coverage.

Why Are Electric Scooters So Expensive?

Though people find electric scooters expensive, they’re available for almost any budget, with the prices depending on the overall quality of the electric scooter.

For instance, if you’re simply looking for an electric scooter to cover your “last mile” or even quick jaunts, you can find an inexpensive and worthy electric scooter. This contrasts to those looking to electric scooters for extended daily commutes and trail riding.

Some of the features contributing to the price differences on electric scooters are:

Battery

The battery takes a lion’s share of an E-scooter’s price. It’s generally agreed that batteries equate to nearly a third of an electric scooter’s overall cost.

In almost all scooters, the power of the battery affects the overall performance of the electric scooter. The larger the battery, the more powerful a scooter is, and the better the range.

Electric Motor

How Much Do Electric Scooters Cost?: [Never Over Pay]

While the motor doesn’t come anywhere close to a battery’s cost, it shoots the price up because it should be reliable for optimum performance.

In particular, it should weather the shocks and vibrations on the road.

Additionally, some motors with special functions like regenerative braking and special bearing drive the electric scooter’s price up.

Research and Development

R&D costs drive the cost of the electric scooter high.

While the electric scooters aren’t anywhere new, the manufacturers have huge R&D costs, including testing, research, controller apps, and more.

Other Reasons

Demand also contributes to the rising cost of electric scooters.

Like any other product, the electric scooters are expensive because they lack scale, but we shall gradually see a decline in the overall prices with enough traction.

Charging an Electric Scooter – Everything You Need to Know

Electric Scooter Charging Costs

How Much Do Electric Scooters Cost?: [Never Over Pay]

E-scooter charging costs vary from region to region. In the US, charging an electric scooter with a low-capacity battery, say 300Wh, should only set you back a few dollars every month

To get the exact amount per full charge, we’ll multiply the battery’s total capacity in kWh by the average electricity rate in the US; $0.10. That’s 0.3kWh by $0.10. So, on average, a short-range electric scooter will cost about $0.03 or 3 cents to fully charge its battery.

Now, the amount above is calculated using a median price. Places like Idaho, where the electricity rate is below that average, might require that riders pay as little as $0.02 (2 cents) to fully charge their e-scooter batteries.

Hawaiians are the ones who have to pay the most. The electricity cost in Hawaii can go as high as 39 cents per kWh. Charging the same 300Wh scooter will cost around $0.111 – for just one cycle.

Another region with very high rates is the Eurozone. Residents in Germany pay an average of 30.43 Euro Cents per Kilowatt-hour of power. In China, the average price of electricity per kWh is $0.099 or 0.635 Yuan.

Keep in mind that all the calculations above were made using an electric scooter with a low-capacity battery rating. E-scooters with high-capacity batteries cost more to charge than shorter-range scooters.

For example, the Kaabo Wolf King GT Pro — one of the most powerful high-end scooters on the planet — could cost riders in the U.S. up to $0.25, users in Germany up to €0.75 ($0.81), and scooter riders in China ¥1.59 ($0.16) per full charge (it comes with a 72V 35Ah/2520 Wh battery).

What Is Electric Scooter Cost Per Mile

How Fast Can a 500 Watt Electric Scooter Go?

In most cases, calculating the average cost per-mile for operating an electric scooter will depend on whether the rider is using a shared device or a personal device. If it’s a personal device, you want to divide the scooter’s charging cost by its estimated range.

So for example, you own an electric scooter that covers at least 30 miles of distance on every full charge. If each full-charge costs approximately $0.06 (adopting the method we used earlier), your average cost per-mile should be about $0.002 (this doesn’t include ownership fees or maintenance and repair costs)

Calculating the cost per-mile for shared scooters isn’t as straightforward though. This is because shared scooter companies usually charge customers per minute and would often require that riders pay a fixed “unlocking” fee.

Bird, for instance, charges riders $0.15 (or 15 cents) for every minute of ride time and imposes a $1 unlocking fee on all rides. To calculate the average cost per-mile of using this e-scooter service, we’ll divide one mile by the average top speed of a Bird scooter (15mph) and multiply the result by 0.15 (cost per minute).

That should amount to $0.6 or 60 ¢. Now add the unlocking fee and your total spend per-mile should be $1.60.

Additional Costs After Purchase

In most cases, any additional cost you incur from using your electric scooter will result from carrying out maintenance on the device or replacing its broken or faulty parts.

An electric scooter’s battery is one component that’s very likely to need replacing after about 500 to 1000 charge cycles. Lithium-ion batteries degrade over a period of time.

It’s a process that cannot be reversed. Higher-end lithium-ion batteries tend to last longer than low-quality packs, averaging up to 2000 full charge cycles before losing 50% of their capacity.

Average e-scooter batteries typically cost between $150 and $300 per unit with higher-capacity packs costing up to $800. Another component you might need to replace if you ride your e-scooter frequently is its tires. The average e-scooter tire should cost you between $40 and $80.
