We were really impressed with the Eagle One Pro’s performance during our acceleration tests. On flat ground, the Dualtron Thunder was able to clock 15mph in 2.0 seconds while the Varla Eagle One Pro surprised us with a record of 2.1 seconds (just .1 seconds later than the Thunder).

That is pretty impressive for an e-scooter with a nominal power rating of 2000W (when compared with a scooter with more than 2x that power). The scooter was, however, unable to keep up with the Dualtron Thunder as we tested them on longer routes.

Below is a table showing the performance of each e-scooter at various speed levels.

The Dualtron Thunder comes with a Minimotors EY3 display. This small computer displays the scooter’s speed, battery level in percentage (also represented in blocks), speed mode, and voltage use.

The Varla Eagle One Pro on the other hand is equipped with a more advanced LCD meter that displays real-time metrics from users’ rides. This color LCD uses Near-field communication to restrict access to the scooter’s control system.

While these technologies might help improve user experience on the Eagle One Pro, it doesn’t take away from the fact that a minimalist meter (like the EY3) will still be able to provide users with all the important information that they need.

Complete Breakdown of the HONBike UNI4

Motor and Power

HONBike UNI4: Motor and Power

The HONBIKE UNI4 e-bike boasts a high-ratio rear hub motor that promises to deliver smooth and efficient power output. The 36V 250W rear hub motor was designed to give that smooth, and uninterrupted transition between gears.

So, those thumping boosts we have grown accustomed to when accelerating should be a thing of the past when ramping up the speed.

The handlebar is where all the magic begins, with a simple control unit that features the power button, and options to choose between Eco, City, or Sport. There’s still a small lever on the right side of the grip for sudden acceleration.

Even more, there’s a built-in gear reduction transmission that facilitates a quick start while consuming minimal battery power on the go.

Range

HONBike UNI4: Range

If there’s one thing people have fallen in love with aside from the UNI4’s simple and aesthetically pleasing design, it’s the range. Just 4-4.5 hours of charging the battery deliver up to 100km in range for those in Europe and 52 miles for US users.

Performance and Acceleration

HONBike UNI4: Performance and Acceleration

The HONBIKE brand promises clean, quiet, and hitch-free performance. Thanks to the 432Wh, 12Ah, 36V integrated lithium-ion battery, there’s enough juice to support a long-range and pleasant riding experience.

The e-bike can also achieve speeds of up to 20mph, which is great for commuters looking to get around the city quickly. Just keep in mind that the HONBIKE was designed more for the city commuter, so this is not an adventure e-bike for adrenaline-pumping off-road competitions.

Let’s just say that the brand focused more on efficiency, usability, exquisite design, and not blazing speeds. However, it’s good to know that the speed limit does not exceed the regulations set by most states in the US.

In addition to efficient riding, there’s also a decent shock-absorbing performance from the tires. The UNI4 also rolls with a pedal-assist function that allows a 15-25km per hour. The incorporated SmartHon automatic transmission equally ensures smooth uphill rides, safe braking, and reduced vibrations.

However, some users pointed out how ‘smoothly’ the braking system reacts after being applied. Of course, this is supposed to be a design plus in terms of reducing hazardous stops or lunging when the brakes are applied too hard.

Still, in terms of emergency, some riders may prefer abrupt stops to more gentle and continuous stopping.

Weight Limit and Net Weight

HONBike UNI4: Weight Limit and Net Weight

The HONBIKE UNI4 weighs about 20kg, which seems pretty decent. Most bikes weigh around 15-25 kg, still, for a city e-bike, some may have a tougher time lugging this around. Additionally, the maximum weight capacity the UNI4 can take is 120kg.

Build Quality

HONBike UNI4: Build Quality

The Honbike UNI4 e-bike rocks an aesthetically pleasing minimalist design with three 7,000-series aircraft-grade aluminum tubes. For even more durability, the drivetrain is made with Gates carbon Belt Drive, with only 3 reinforced tubes connecting the entirety of the e-bike.

Design and Engineering

HONBike UNI4: Design and Engineering

This e-bike was crafted with riders between the heights of 5.25 and 6.2 ft in mind. Such cyclists will be more comfortable riding in an upright stance without having to crouch over or overlean to reach the basics.

The angular-free well rounded design also gives the UNI4 a clean and sophisticated look, plus, there are no sharp edges to deal with. Another plus would be the internal cabling design, which keeps the mess inside, leaving a clean, minimalist look on the exterior.

Some may argue that this design may appear boring, however, if you love classic simplicity, the design perfectly envelopes that. Even more, there’s the uphill assist many users are raving about.

HONBike UNI4: LCD Display

Yes, the UNI4 isn’t the classic definition of a mountain e-bike.  At least with the gyroscope assist feature, this e-bike can conveniently rave through hilly and more challenging terrains. Even the display unit which incorporates the major controls takes on that same minimalist design.

It’s wedged at the center and easy to access at all times. Most beginners will find this user-friendly, however, cycling and tech experts who are looking for more in terms of design may find it a bit basic. Still, the simplistic design makes the e-bike easier to navigate and assemble.

HONBike UNI4: Robust Kickstand

Let’s talk about parking and stability. Again, thanks to the durable build and decent weight, it’s easy to park and lean the e-bike during stops. There’s also a robust kickstand that almost hides stealthily under a sealed tube. So, it’s out of sight, plus it won’t scratch your sides, rack on dirt, or get in the way during a ride.

In terms of lighting, there are LED lights at the front and rear of the UNI4, plus fenders to protect the tires from excess dirt and mud. Another conflicting spec would be the incorporated battery system.

On one hand, the integrated battery adds to that smooth, minimalist design the Honbike brand was going for. This also means, that when charging the e-bike, you have to carry the entire bike to the socket for charging.

Suspension and Tire

HONBike UNI4: Suspension and Tire

The Honbike sports a no-spoke-tension adjustment wheel, which is one of the major appeals of the e-bike. This design eliminates the sweat-inducing maintenance that comes with heavily-spoked wheels.

The exterior wheel is made of auto-industry-level die-cast Tru magnesium, which is great in terms of reliability and durability. Plus, the closely woven grip tread pattern on the wheel’s surface ensures enhanced friction between the road surface and the e-bike.

Water Resistance

HONBike UNI4: Water Resistance

A lot of e-bikes promise great precision, enjoyable performance, and innovative designs. However, not all of them possess the added advantage of water resistance. Thankfully, the UNI4 comes with an IPX6 water-resistant rating

This means the e-bike can with standard powerful sprays of water, and won’t be affected by rainfall or drizzles if outside for a few minutes.

HONBike UNI4: Who's For

Who Is This Product For?

The Honbike UNI4 is a low-maintenance e-bike with a sturdy and stunning frame for city cruisers. Its non-angular frame is perfect for riders between 5.25 and 6.2 ft in height. First-time riders may also want to jump on this because of how easy it is to ride and operate. Additionally, for city commuters who are looking for a relatively lightweight e-bike with a minimalist yet eye-catching design, the Honbike ticks all those boxes.

In terms of its powerful motor and long-lasting battery, this is also an excellent option for good range, smooth mobility, and easy manoeuvrability.

Who This Product Is Not For?

As mentioned above, the Honbike does not produce crazy speed levels some mountain or off-road e-bikes promise. So, for people who can’t compromise on the need for speed, as well as show-offy and technical designs, this may not be the e-bike for you.

Electric Vehicles: Where Are We Headed?

How To Maintain A Hybrid Or Electric Vehicle Correctly

If you own a hybrid or electric vehicle, it’s important to know how to maintain it correctly. By following a few simple tips, you can keep your vehicle running smoothly and avoid costly repairs. Here are some essential maintenance tips for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Consider investing in a used car warranty

Investing in an extended warranty for your hybrid or EV can be a great way to keep up with maintenance. Used car warranties can give you that extra peace of mind when getting behind the wheel, as they provide financial protection should anything go awry with your car’s electric system or components.

A used car warranty often also includes roadside assistance in case of emergency, so you can receive help should something unexpected occur while out on the road. An extended warranty can even help increase the resale value of your vehicle which could become useful if and when the time comes to exchange it for something new.

Keep your car plugged in when you’re not using it

Many car owners don’t realize that one of the best ways you can take care of your car is by plugging it in when you’re not using it. By connecting your car to an electric vehicle charger, you get the peace of mind knowing that your battery won’t lose power over time and become damaged due to extreme cold or heat.

Additionally, this practice helps reduce harmful emissions and can even boost the efficiency of fuel-injection systems in certain types of cars. Plugging in when not using your car isn’t difficult and doesn’t require much effort, but it makes a huge difference. Taking these simple precautions will keep your car running smoothly and help protect the environment at the same time.

Check the battery of your EV or hybrid car regularly

Owning a hybrid or electric car sounds like a dream, but it’s important to remember that even cars with electric powering components require maintenance and regular checkups. Charging your electric vehicle is just one component of keeping it in tip top shape – you also need to make sure you’re paying attention to the battery.

The most engaging way to ensure your EV or hybrid is running smoothly is by checking the battery regularly; this will make sure it’s functioning correctly and keep the car running at its best. Be sure not to neglect your EV battery, as it can greatly determine how long your car will stay on the road for years to come!

Get the oil changed every 5,000 miles or so

To keep your electric vehicle or hybrid car running optimally, it’s essential to get the oil changed every 5,000 miles or so. Forgetting to change the oil regularly can cause major damage and large repair bills down the line.

Consider that regular oil changes are an investment in both your car’s life and its performance – they help clean out old, inefficient oil while improving fuel efficiency, engine power, and reducing emissions.

Furthermore, taking proper care of your car now will save you money in the future; a dirty car runs less efficiently than a clean one and also incurs more gas costs due to inadequate performance. So take time today to ensure your EV runs affordably and smoothly into the future!

Keep an eye on the brakes

The brakes in an electric vehicle are a critical component to the overall reliability and performance of the car. While most EVs come with advanced braking systems, it’s important to keep an eye on the brake pads, rotors and calipers so potential problems can be caught before they become too severe.

Pay close attention when you take your EV for a test drive, or do an inspection every couple of months if possible. Don’t hesitate to take it to a professional technician, as often their up-to-date knowledge can prevent any costly mistakes from occurring. Overall, regular maintenance is key when it comes to keeping the brakes working properly on your electric vehicle!

Inspect the tires often on your EV

If you drive an EV, you know that keeping your car in great condition is an integral part of helping it give you the longest life possible and performing at its best. One important maintenance habit to get into is regularly checking your tires.

Even though electric vehicles have fewer moving parts than their combustion engine counterparts, the tires still need to be inspected frequently for signs of wear and tear or improper inflation pressure.

Doing this will help ensure that your EV rides as smoothly as possible and reduces the risk of any accidents due to tire problems such as blowouts. By inspecting your tires often, you’ll also help maintain proper fuel efficiency for a longer range on each charge.

By following these six tips, you can extend the life of your car and avoid expensive repairs. With regular maintenance, your car will continue to run smoothly for years to come. Do you have any other tips for keeping a car in good condition? Share them with us in the comments!

Honbike – Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry

If you stumbled across the name “Honbike” accidentally or while browsing for reliable electric bike brands and are wondering if this brand and their bikes are worth checking out, this article is for you.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 2

This in-depth guide covers everything you need to know about Honbike. Who founded the company; Where they manufacture their products; and how reliable and innovative are Honbike electric bikes

Who owns Honbike

Honbike was founded by a group of engineers. These engineers came together from different countries (Japan and China) to start the company in 2019.

The brand launched its first product on Indiegogo in March 2022 and reached its funding goal that very day. Today, Honbike is seen as one of the revolutionary brands driving innovation in the e-bike industry.

Why did Honbike exist

The vision of Honbike seems to be focused on providing affordable, reliable, and maintenance-free transportation for everyone. The brand wants to create a new generation of electric bikes that are safe, practical, fun to drive, and environmentally friendly.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 3

Since the dawn of civilization, humans have been destroying the natural environment in their quest for economic and technological progress and from what we observed, Honbike seems to be committed to inspiring other electric bike brands into embracing greener manufacturing processes.

While we have not yet achieved zero emissions, we’re moving towards a new era where innovation means reducing carbon emissions, saving natural resources, and improving people’s lives; Honbike appears to be a strong advocate in the way of this movement.

What’s Honbike vision for the ebike industry

A lot of e-bike companies preach about how their products are better for the environment than gas-powered vehicles. Well, to some extent, this statement is true.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 4

The fact that electric bikes don’t burn fossil fuels to propel themselves is proof enough that they are better for this planet than gas-powered vehicles. However, one thing a lot of these companies fail to mention while making all these claims is how resources- and gas-intensive it is to manufacture any electric vehicle of any type.

According to a New York Times article, electric vehicles have been found to be more emissions-intensive to produce than regular gas-powered vehicles. This means that they aren’t as climate-friendly as most of these brands want us to believe.

This is what makes Honbike different from all other electric bike brands. Honbike adopts some of the most resource-efficient manufacturing processes in the industry.

The brand uses die-casting technology to design its components. This method is more energy-efficient and produces fewer emissions than traditional welding and heat treatment processes.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 5

Their bikes are also made from fewer components than regular electric bicycles. For example, the HF01 comprises of just 57 parts. Most of the electric bikes available on the market today come with over 200 components.

These designs are what Honbike hopes will revolutionize the electric bike industry. Imagine a world where electric bikes are manufactured using climate-friendly and resource-efficient processes; Honbike seems poised to lead this movement.

Honbike Future Product Releases

Honbike released the UNI4 in July 2022, so it might be a while before they release any new models into the market. In the meantime, you can follow them on social media or subscribe to their newsletter to stay informed with the latest updates from their PR team.

Nevertheless, have it in mind that their engineers are constantly searching for new, climate-friendly, and resource-efficient innovations to introduce into the e-bike industry.

Where are Honbike ebikes made

Honbike electric bikes are manufactured in Taiwan and Mainland China. However, the brand has its headquarters located in the Netherlands and in China.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 6

Are Honbike ebikes any good

Honbike places a lot of focus on the durability of their electric bikes. The brand makes sure that all its bikes (and their components) are manufactured under strict quality guidelines.

The UNI4’s frame is built from a 7000 series aluminum alloy. This type of aluminum alloy is stronger and more resistant to corrosion than 6061 aluminum; the most-used frame material in the industry. Also, their bikes are made up of fewer components than regular electric bikes, so they are less likely to break down. The brand even provides a 2-year warranty to all initial purchasers of their bikes.

According to experiences from some customers, the brand also offers excellent customer support. One customer even detailed how he almost totaled his Honbike in an accident and how the company was very helpful in providing technical assistance even to the point of replacing some damaged components for free.

You can’t get it wrong with Honbike ebikes. They are affordable, powerful, lightweight, and easy to use. Plus, Honbike electric bikes are super easy to carry around. This is because their tubes are not as bulky as other electric bikes.

What makes Honbike unique

Honbike products are unlike most of the electric bikes we’re used to seeing on product pages and e-commerce websites. These bikes come with innovative features and are built from the highest-quality materials.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 7

In the sections that follow, we will discuss some of the things that make Honbike electric bicycles unique from other e-bikes available on the market today.

Their frames

Honbike’s innovative designs are one thing that sets them apart from other electric bikes on the market. Their frames are built to be compact, minimalist, and lightweight, eliminating all the bulk that usually comes with electric bikes.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 8

The brand sacrifices unnecessary — and in some cases, aesthetic — accessories for functional and practical components. For example, the HF01 is one of the most compact foldable electric bikes on the market.

This bike measures about 60.8 inches in length and is 41.7 inches height. That’s pretty compact compared to e-bikes like the RadExpand which has a handlebar height (height from the base of the tire to the top of the handlebars) of 48 inches and a length of 68 inches.

Smarthon system

Imagine having an automated system that adapts your bike’s motor output to various riding conditions. A drive system that changes gears itself in response to signals received from various sensors; This is Honbike’s Smarthon system.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 9

This smart drive technology comes pre-programmed into every Honbike electric bike and its main function is to adjust the bike’s output to meet riders’ needs. If you’re traveling up a hill, this system will automatically increase the level of assistance you’re getting from the motor.

Also, once you get to a flat road, it senses your orientation and sends signals to the controller to limit the flow of current to the motor.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 10

Their bikes have higher resistance to water than most e-bikes

Honbike electric bikes are built for riding in various conditions. The HF01 comes with a water-resistance rating of IP65, which when decoded means the bike’s enclosures protect against ingress from dust and low-pressure water jets from all directions.

Their newest model, the UNI4, is built to the IPX6 water-resistance standard. Electronics with IPX6 rating are impervious to water jets from high-pressure nozzles.

IPX6 is probably the highest rating you can get on any e-bike. Most electric bikes available on the market today come with water-resistance ratings between IPX4 and IP55.

Their low-maintenance drive system

The HF01 comes with an enclosed shaft-drive system. One thing we like about this system is that it is sealed inside a tube, preventing dust, debris, and moisture from getting into it.

This factor gives the HF01’s drive mechanism a huge advantage over regular chain- or belt-drive systems in terms of longevity. Honbike even estimates that the HF01’s drive system should be able to operate maintenance-free for close to 31000 miles.

This means that the average rider might never have to carry out maintenance on the HF01’s drive mechanism. If you’re in the market for a cost-efficient transport solution, the Honbike HF01 might just be the best motor-powered two-wheeler for you. It doesn’t require regular maintenance and, like I mentioned earlier, it might take a very long time before you have to change any parts of the drive mechanism.

Current Honbike Models

HFO1

This revolutionary electric bike was the first model that Honbike released to the public. It comes with a 250W motor, a clean shaft-drive system, a 36V 6Ah battery, front & rear lights, torque & cadence sensors, fenders, and an integrated LCD all fitted into a lightweight, collapsible frame.

Honbike - Rethinking Innovation in the E-bike Industry 12

The bike is equipped with SmartHON™ (intelligent automated system), which adjusts and delivers the power assistance users need based on the terrain and their riding behavior. It gives the rider adequate power assistance when riding on flat terrain and offers an additional power boost to make uphill rides a breeze.

UNI4

This budget-friendly commuter electric bike comes with a 350w motor that propels it to speeds of up to 20mph (32km/h). Its integrated 432Wh (36V 12Ah) battery can cover up to 52 miles (84km) of range on a single charge, which, in my opinion, is pretty impressive considering the size and weight of the bike (45 lbs/20.2 kg).

Unlike the HF01, the UNI4 uses a belt drive system (belts are known to be more efficient than chains). The bike also comes with a more durable frame than the HF01’s (it can support up to 265 lbs/120 kg of weight)

Optibike Brand Review

Optibike – One Of The First Ebike Brands in USA

Optibike

Optibike is a company that specializes in producing performance electric bikes. The brand has been manufacturing electric bikes since it released its first model, the Model 400, in 2008.

Today, Optibike is known as one of the oldest e-bike brands in the United States. Their products have traveled far and wide around the globe and the internet is filled with testimonies of how good their performance e-bikes are.

Who Owns Optibike

Jim Turner

Jim Turner

First Prototype Optibike

First Prototype

Optibike was founded by Jim Turner, a Master of Science in design engineering from Stanford University, in 1998. Before Jim started Optibike, he worked as a design engineer for Ford motor company between 1984 and 1986.

In 1996, Jim started studying electric hub-drive systems and by 1997, he had developed his first prototype. This prototype was equipped with an electric motor that was capable of outputting up to 350 Watts of power and a 24V 15Ah lead-acid battery.

Things slowed down a bit and it wasn’t until 2006 (almost 10 years after the first prototype was released)  that Optibike manufactured their first production electric bike. Things sort of took off from there and by 2007 Optibike was named “The Ferrari of electric bikes” by New York Times and in that same year, Jim was given the “Inventor of The Year” award at the Colorado Inventor Showcase.

Before the end of the decade, Optibike had already pioneered the use of Lithium-ion batteries on electric bikes. It’s almost as if they’re always ahead of every other e-bike brand in technological innovations.

Why Did Optibike Exist

R22 Everest Trailer Rear

Jim’s inspiration to start making electric bikes came after he purchased his very first e-bike. Before then, he had competed in various Motocross tournaments and was even a two-time national champion, so it’s safe to assume that he had some experience riding two-wheelers.

Jim found out that most of the electric bikes available at that time weren’t even capable of climbing moderately-steep hills without maximal effort from the rider. He knew that with his experience in the tech industry, he could design something far more powerful than what was being offered by manufacturers in the industry; That was how Optibike started as a company.

Today, the brand designs some of the most powerful production electric bikes you can get on the market. Their newest e-bike, the R22 Everest, is capable of outputting up to 1700 Watts (2500W at peak performance) of power.

Where Are Optibike Electric Bikes Manufactured

Optibike Electric Bikes Manufactured

Optibike manufactures most of its electric bikes in the United States. Unlike most US e-bike brands that source all of their manufacturing overseas, Optibike builds some of its e-bikes in Colorado.

The R22 and R22 Everest, as well as the R17 and R10, are designed and built in the United States. These bikes come with patented motors (the brand uses a unique kind of drive system almost similar to the mid-drive system), custom-built lithium-ion batteries, (Optibike was the first brand in the US to use a Lithium-ion battery on an e-bike), and hand-built Carbon Fiber frames.

However, some of their components are designed by companies who source their manufacturing overseas. For example, their hubs are designed by Rohloff AG, a German company that manufactures most of its products locally. They also equip their bikes with FOX forks (FOX manufactures its suspension forks in Taiwan and assembles them in the U.S.)

What Makes Optibike Electric Bikes Unique

Their Frame Designs

Optibike Electric Bikes Frame

Optibike e-bikes are built for high-performance riding and their frames are a testament to this. If you take a look at all the electric bikes in the R series (R10, R17, R22, and R22 Everest), you’ll notice how robust their tubes look.

These tubes are made from Carbon Fiber; a light but highly-durable material used in the production of airplanes and space crafts. Their bikes also come with high-quality suspension systems that help mitigate shock when riding on rough surfaces.

Their Drive Systems

Optibike Electric Bikes Motor

Most Optibike e-bikes use an electric drive mechanism that is very similar to the popular mid-drive system. This mechanism (or motor) is also situated in the bike’s bottom bracket, however, it is smaller and usually capable of outputting more power than regular mid-drive motors.

The brand has patented this motor design and uses other drive systems on some of their cheaper electric bikes (the only e-bike in Optibike’s lineup that comes with a hub-motor is the Argon).

High-capacity Batteries

Optibike Electric Bikes High-capacity Battery

Battery power is another area where Optibike excels. The brand produces some of the best lithium-ion e-bike batteries anyone can get on the market.

One of their premium models, the R22 Everest, is even dubbed to be the longest-range production e-bike in the world. This electric bike comes with two 52V 31.5Ah batteries and is capable of covering up to 300 miles (483 km) of range on a single charge.

That’s an insane amount of range for an electric bike. But one shouldn’t expect any less from them. The brand has been designing e-bike batteries since 2008 and was even the first to release an e-bike with a Lithium-ion battery in the US.

Are Optibike Electric Bikes Any Good

Optibike Electric Bikes Any Good

The simple answer to that question is “Yes”.

Optibike has a 4.6-star rating on Trustpilot; that’s the highest rating we’ve ever seen any ebike brand rack up. Even premium e-bike manufacturers like Trek and Specialized have under 3 stars on the third-party review site. If you also go through their BBB page, you’d notice that there are no complaints on there.

Optibike electric bikes are built to the strictest quality standards. You’d hardly find any bad comments about their products online and their bikes are known to last for years. They also provide excellent customer support. Even Jim, the CEO of the brand, responds to some customer queries.

Both scooters are equipped with dual 1000W motors, however, the Varla Eagle One Pro outclasses the Apollo Ghost in terms of performance. It is a faster and torquier electric scooter than the Apollo Ghost.

During our speed test, the Varla Eagle One Pro was able to clock a top speed of 40.6 mph (65 kph). This, in comparison with the Apollo Ghost’s top speed of 36.6 mph (59 kph), proves that, while both e-scooters have the same motor rating, the Varla Eagle One Pro is definitely the more powerful of the two.

We also drove both e-scooters up a 10% grade hill and recorded a higher average speed for the Varla Eagle One Pro; 17.1mph (27.5kph).

The Varla Eagle One Pro is able to cover about 36 miles of range on a single full-charge of its battery. This is thanks to the scooter’s high-capacity — 60V 27Ah — battery.

The Apollo Ghost, on the other hand, comes with a smaller battery. Its 52V 18.2Ah battery can store up enough charge to power 25-mile travels. Keep in mind that riding conditions (riding mode, weather conditions, rider weight, etc) affect your battery’s consumption rate, so you may not be able to achieve these range numbers when you eventually get any of these scooters.

Both electric scooters come with suspension. They are both equipped with dual-spring suspension systems.

However, the Varla Eagle One Pro is better suited for off-road riding than the Apollo Ghost. This is because it has more ground clearance than the latter. Electric scooters with high ground clearance are generally better at mitigating shock from large bumps than those with a lower center of gravity.

The Varla Eagle One Pro also comes with larger-diameter tires than the Apollo Ghost. These also help improve the overall quality of rides.

Warranty and Shipping

Varla currently only offers free shipping to addresses in the US (excl. Hawaii and Alaska). Orders placed online can take between 3 – 5 business days to reach your doorstep depending on where you live.

Shipping to Canada costs $200 plus any applicable taxes. Additional fees may apply if you purchase additional items separately.

Varla also offers one of the longest-duration warranties in the industry. All their electric scooters are covered against manufacturing defects for 2 years. Most e-scooter manufacturers only provide coverage for one year after the initial purchase, including Apollo.

Apollo ships its products to addresses in Canada and the United States for free. Orders from the United States usually take between 2 and 5 business days to reach their destination, while shipments to Canadian addresses may take up to six business days.

However, shipping costs can vary depending on where you’re located in the US. For example, if you live in Alaska or Hawaii and would like to place your order, Apollo will charge you between $100 and $300 to deliver your scooter because these states require the brand to ship via air freight.

Varla Eagle One Pro

Who’s the Varla Eagle One Pro For

The Varla Eagle One Pro is a great off-roading electric scooter. It’s powerful and sturdy enough to handle the rigors of riding on rough terrain.

It’s also a great electric scooter for riders who weigh over 300 lbs (it has a max load capacity of 330lbs).

Who’s the Varla Eagle One Pro Not For

If you’re in the market for an electric scooter that you can carry in-between commutes, the Varla Eagle One Pro is not for you. Besides being very heavy (90 lbs), the scooter’s frame is also not designed to be picked up frequently.

Apollo Ghost

Who’s the Apollo Ghost For

The Apollo Ghost is great for anyone who’s in the market for a lightweight beast e-scooter. It’s also suitable for light off-road riding and can double as a commuter e-scooter since it folds into a very compact size.

Who’s the Apollo Ghost Not For

If you don’t have any experience riding electric scooters, I wouldn’t suggest you purchase the Apollo Ghost. It might not be as powerful as the Varla Eagle One Pro, but it is zippy enough to throw you off balance (if not even take off from under you).

Complete breakdown of the Himiway Zebra ST

Motor and Power

Himiway Zebra ST: Motor and Power

The Himiway Zebra ST comes with a 750W geared hub-motor that can deliver up to 86Nm of torque. The bike comes programmed with a speed limit of 15.5mph to ensure that it complies with e-bike laws in the US.

However, riders can lift this speed limit by accessing the bike’s advanced menu. We were able to reach a top speed of 27mph (45kmh) during our speed tests. Keep in mind that this was achieved in the bike’s highest pedal-assist setting; PAS5.

The table below details the complete results from our speed test.

Range

Himiway Zebra ST: Battery

The Himiway Zebra ST was able to cover around 27 miles (43.45km) on full throttle during our range test. It comes with a 960Wh (48V 20Ah) integrated battery that supports easy and quick removal

You should be able to cover about 50 miles (80km) on a single charge if you switch to a low pedal-assist setting. We were able to cover about 49 miles in PAS2 mode.

Charging the bike takes about 7 hours with the standard 3 Amp charger, but you should be able to cut that down to 5 hours if you use a fast charger.

Performance and Acceleration

Himiway Zebra All-terrain Electric Fat Bike Step Through Review 15

The Himiway Zebra ST is a pretty zippy electric bike. It comes with a half-twist throttle that propels it to speeds of up to 25mph in under 20 seconds.

It also comes with a torque-sensing pedal-assist system that provides motor assistance based on how much pressure is applied to the cranks.

Climbing Ability

Himiway Zebra ST: Climbing Ability

We took the Zebra to a 12-percent grade hill for our hill-climbing test and it outperformed most of the e-bikes we have ever tested on that same hill. In throttle-only mode, the Zebra was able to make it to the top of that hill with an average speed of 13.7 mph (21kmh).

In PAS 5, we were able to average about 16mph traveling up that hill. These metrics rank the Himiway Zebra ST among the best 750W electric bikes we’ve ever tested.

Ride Smoothness

Himiway Zebra ST: Front Suspension

The Himiway Zebra ST comes with front suspension forks that help smoothen bumpy rides. These forks can be adjusted and locked to prevent terrain feedback.

The bike also comes with 26” x 4” Kenda tires that help swallow up small road irregularities. Another advantage of having fat tires is that they help maximize traction. If you’re in the market for a multi-terrain electric bike, the Himiway Zebra ST might just be the perfect fit for your needs.

Weight Limit and Net Weight

Himiway Zebra ST: Weight Limit and Net Weight

The Himiway Zebra ST is one of the sturdiest electric bikes currently available on the market. This beast can support up to 400 lbs (181kg) of weight. That’s about 33% more weight capacity than most electric bikes in its price range.

In the table below we compare the payload capacities of various mountain e-bikes with the Himiway Zebra ST.

Himiway Zebra ST: Portability

Portability isn’t one of the Himiway Zebra ST’s strongest suits. Besides weighing over 70 pounds, this electric bike measures up to 43 inches in height and 78.7 inches in length. It also comes with a rigid frame, making it almost impossible to collapse the bike into a smaller size.

Display and Controls

Himiway Zebra ST: Display and Controls

The Himiway Zebra ST comes with a grayscale LCD meter that displays the bike’s speed, trip distance, PAS level, and battery consumption at a glance. You can also modify the bike’s speed limit, tire diameter, and PAS levels from this tiny computer.

You can add as many as four extra pedal-assist levels to the default five (for a total of 9 pedal-assist levels) and edit how much power (in percentage) each level delivers. Also, if you move to a region with stricter e-bike policies, you can always modify the bike’s speed limit to comply with regulations there.

Turning, Control, and Balance

Himiway Zebra All-terrain Electric Fat Bike Step Through Review 16

Maneuverability is another strong point of the Himiway Zebra ST. The bike comes with 27.6” handlebars which helps improve stability and control.

Some people think that a narrower bar provides better control and feel over the bike. But they’re wrong. With a wider grip, you get better traction over rocky sections, roots, and rough terrain.

Wider handlebars also reduce trail feedback, so you’ll notice smoother steering and tighter turns. Finally, wider bars allow you to reach further into corners, improving control.

Braking power is another decent feature on the Himiway Zebra ST. The bike comes with 180mm hydraulic disc brakes.

Hydraulic disc-braking systems offer several advantages over conventional cable brakes. These include greater stopping power, lower maintenance costs, less noise, and better performance.

Water Resistance

Himiway Zebra ST: Water Resistance

Himiway doesn’t exactly specify the water-resistance rating of the Zebra, but they do state — on their FAQ page — that their bikes are waterproof enough to be ridden under light rain. They do also warn against riding their e-bikes in excessive rain as you might unintentionally submerge some of its electronic components in puddles.

Almost all electric bikes available on the market today are not designed to be submerged in water.

Upgrades and Accessories

Himiway Zebra ST: Integrated Brake Light

The Himiway Zebra ST comes fully equipped with almost every utility riders might need to improve the quality of their rides. It is equipped with full-length aluminum fenders, front & rear LED lights, a kickstand, and a rear rack.

The brand also includes a branded face cap to every order at no extra cost to customers.

Who’s the Himiway Zebra ST Not For

If you have to carry your bike in-between commutes or carry it up a flight of stairs, the Himiway Zebra ST is not for you. It is heavy and carrying it isn’t going to be very easy because it doesn’t have a top tube.

There are lighter options that might suit your profile. Some of them include the Ride1Up Roadster (33 lbs/15 kg), the Aventon Soltera (41 lbs/19 kg), and Rad Power Bikes’ Radmission (48 lbs/22 kg).

The Himiway Zebra ST is also not suitable for short riders. Its frame is built to fit riders between 5’2” and 6’4” tall. If you’re under 5’2” you might want to check out our top picks of the best e-bikes for short riders.

Xnito Helmets

Xnito – The New E-Helmet Company that Keeps You Safe

Xnito is a leading manufacturer of high-quality electric bike helmets. Since its inception in 2020, the brand has grown into a company that is recognized by cycling enthusiasts for its quality, innovation, and design.

As e-biking becomes a part of life for many of us, there is no doubt that it is essential to wear protective headgear. Not only does wearing a helmet prevent serious injuries, it also increases overall safety and comfort levels.

There are different types of bicycle helmets out there, each offering their own unique features. However, only a few are designed to handle Class 3 speeds. Xnito is one of the few brands that designs helmets for this purpose.

If you own a Class 2/3 e-bike or a performance electric scooter, and have been looking for helmets that meet the minimum safety requirements for riding any of these machines, you may want to read this article to the end.

Stay tuned for updates on these exciting projects by following them on social media — , , and — or subscribing to their newsletter.

Who Owns Xnito

Xnito Helmets

Xnito was founded in 2020 by Benjamin Dai. The brand started out as an e-commerce company selling n95 masks before shifting its attention to bicycle helmets designed for high-speed impacts.

Before founding Xnito, Benjamin used to run an IT consulting firm called Tunabear Inc.. The company is still in operation, in Dallas, TX.

Why Did Xnito Exist

Generally speaking, regular bike helmets are not designed to provide protection at high speeds. The average bike helmet will only protect your brain if you crash at speeds under 15mph (24kmh).

This wasn’t a problem, until a new, much faster, class of electric bikes were released into the market.

The emergence of faster electric vehicles warranted the creation of stronger, much more safer helmets. This is where Xnito comes in.

Xnito is known for selling affordable helmets built to the NTA-8776 standard. Their helmets are rated for speeds of up to 28 miles an hour (45kmh) and often cost less than other NTA-8776 certified helmets.

Xnito Helmets: Crash Test

If you own a really fast electric bike, unicycle, or e-skateboard, Xnito helmets are probably the best choice of helmets you can find on the market. They’re durable, stylish (available in different colors and finishes), and come with a lot of cool features.

Where Are Xnito Helmets Made

Xnito helmets are designed in the United States and manufactured in China. This is the same business model that a lot of big companies in the United States use.

They design a prototype locally and outsource the manufacturing in a country where the cost of manufacturing is significantly lower. Apple, for instance, designs its products (the iPhone, iPads, MacBooks, smartwatches, etc.) in its California headquarters and manufactures them through a global supply chain.

Are Xnito Helmets Any Good

Xnito has a 5-star rating on Judge.me (with 58 reviews from verified buyers) and a 4.7-star rating on Amazon (ranking among Amazon’s Best Sellers in the “Adult Helmet” category).

Xnito Helmets: Judge.me Reviews

Xnito helmets are functional, durable, easy to use, and affordable. Their helmets are also built for riding in almost any condition. You can use them during the day, at night, or under light rainy conditions.

If you have any issues with the quality of their helmets, you can always reach out to their customer support team. Their customer care agents are very knowledgeable and respond to queries quickly.

What Makes Xnito Unique

Xnito helmets are unlike most bicycle helmets available on the market today. The brand prioritizes durability, rider safety and comfortability over advanced functionalities like Bluetooth connectivity, speaker, fall detection, etc, This is why their helmets are known as some of the most durable in the industry.

In this section, we go through some of the things that distinguish Xnito helmets from other regular bicycle helmets.

1) Their Helmets Are Built to the NTA-8776 Standard

This means that they provide more protection than regular CPSC- and CE-certified bike helmets. As stated earlier, most bike helmets on the market today are rated for speeds under 15 miles an hour.

This makes them inappropriate for use on S-pedelecs and other micromobility products  that are capable of reaching speeds of up to 28mph. Xnito helmets are designed for this specific purpose.

They have been tested and found to be very effective at mitigating damage to the head when you crash at speeds up to 28mph. Xnito helmets also provide higher levels of protection for delicate parts of the head including the temple and the back of the head.

Xnito Helmets: NTA-8776 Standard

2) Xnito Helmets Are Lightweight

The Xnito Old School Logan is among the lightest e-bike helmets you can get on the market. The helmet weighs about 0.83lbs, which is a little under the average weight for most helmets in its class.

In the table below, we compare the Xnito Old School with some of the best bicycle helmets out there.

3) Their Helmets Come With a Detachable Visor

Visors help shield cyclists’ eyes from direct sunlight and debris sprayed in the air by other road users. However, they also have their disadvantages. For one, they restrict your field of view and make it a bit difficult to stay aware of your surroundings.

Visors also impede a rider’s speed (since they cause drag). This doesn’t mean that they are generally bad for cycling. On the contrary, as stated earlier, having a visor on your helmet can prove to be very advantageous under certain conditions.

Xnito Helmets: Detachable Visor

However, they’re not suitable for every situation. Bicycle helmets with removable/detachable visors are usually more versatile in this regard. Xnito has a great lineup of e-bike helmets with removable fabric visors and they’re available in different, stylish designs.

4) Xnito Helmets Come With Front and Rear Lights

If you plan on doing some night-time riding, using an Xnito helmet could help improve your visibility to other road users. Their helmets are equipped with waterproof front and rear LED lights that last up to 10 hours when fully charged.

5) Xnito Ships Its Helmets to All Us States for Free

If you are looking for a helmet that can be shipped anywhere in the United States, there is no better option than Xnito. The brand has been shipping its products to customers from all across the country, for free, since 2020. They also offer expedited delivery options at an extra fee.

6) They Offer Free Replacements for Damaged Helmets

One thing we really like about this brand is their warranty; All Xnito helmets come with a lifetime warranty.

If you damage your Xnito helmet, the brand will replace your it with a brand new helmet. And unlike other brands that make the process of claiming a warranty strenuous, requesting a replacement from the Xnito team is pretty straightforward by calling their customer support team.

Xnito Helmets: Free Replacements

They might, however, ask that you provide them with feedback on how the helmet got damaged so that they can continue to work on making their helmets more durable.

7) They Offer Deep Discounts to Delivery Riders

Xnito runs an incentive program that allows delivery drivers to buy their helmets at a discounted prices. To qualify for the program, riders must show proof that they’re really delivering goods. Riders who can provide this evidence get either a deep discount or sometimes a completely free helmet.

Eovan Board Brand Review

EOVAN BOARD – The New Electric Skatboard Brand

Eovan is slowly becoming a well-known name in the electric skateboard space. The brand has been offering high-performance e-skateboards at affordable prices since it released its first model in 2017.

However, we’re sure that as an e-skateboard enthusiast, you want to know how well Eovan eskatboards ride and if they’re really as durable as Eovan says they are. Well, in this article, we’re going to be focusing on the Eovan brand, what it brings to the market and the quality of the products they produce..

We’re also answering the following questions in this article:

Who owns Eovan?

Are their products reliable?

Where do they make their electric skateboards?

Read to the end to find out more about Eovan and if their products are a good fit for your next electric skateboard buy.

Who Owns Eovan

Eovan Board Brand: Logo

Eovan was founded in 2017 by a man named Peter Chen. The brand is a subsidiary of Shenzhen Yinuofan Technology Co., Ltd. company. The word “Eovan” stands for Electric, Optimum, Valor, Attractive, and Noble

Why Did Eovan Exist

Before he founded Eovan, Peter Chen had always been a huge fan of high-performance vehicles (he even owned a sports car). He had always dreamt of creating a high-performance electric unite that would outclass others on the market.

However, It wasn’t until he rode an electric skateboard — for the first time — that he decided to design his very own e-skateboard. But, things didn’t go as planned and he was unable to find the components he needed to develop a high-performance board.

Eovan Board Brand: Custom Electric Skateboard

This drove him to seek out engineers who could design custom components for his dream e-skateboard. It took about a year to design the first custom electric skateboard.

This prototype was equipped with an Electronic Speed Controller and its motors were designed from scratch by the team. This is how Eovan Tech started.

Eovan Board Brand: Eovan GTO

Today, Eovan is known for manufacturing high-powered, multi-terrain electric skateboards. The brand has tested and improved on its designs since its first generation of e-skateboards rolled out.

Also Related:

Best Electric Skateboard for Beginners – Guide for First Timers

According to a post on the Eovan board official webpage; their designs “…are based on four main principles; speed, power, comfort, and quality.”

Where Are Eovan E-skateboards Made

Eovan skateboards are manufactured in China by their parent company, Shenzhen Yinuofan Technology Co., Ltd.. This helps the brand ensure that they’re able to offer their products to customers at affordable price ranges.

Eovan Board Brand: Carbon Board

It also doesn’t mean that products manufactured in China are of lower quality than those manufactured in the US or the UK (or other countries in Europe). On the contrary, China has some of the most advanced manufacturing processes in the world.

Most of the time, what determines the quality of products made in China is the specifications sent by brands to manufacturers; like in the case of electric bikes

So, for example, if RadPowerBikes wanted a Chinese manufacturer to equip a new line of e-bikes with higher-end components (say a battery with Samsung/LG cells as opposed to a generic battery) they’d include this in the specifications of the prototype. This would usually cost the brand more than if they chose a component from a generic manufacturer.

Eovan Board Brand: High Torque Belt Drive

Eovan states that their designs are a result of multiple tests and improvements. The company also states that it is committed to designing powerful and quality e- skateboards. You will find out how reliable their products are in the next section.

Are Eovan E-skateboards Any Good

Eovan prides itself in the performance and durability of its boards, but are the brand’s products really that good? We studied user reviews on Eovan products and what we found was pretty interesting.

Almost most users were satisfied with the performance and overall build quality of their e-skateboards. One customer was even surprised he didn’t completely total his board after he crashed it at high speed. This shows just how durable and sturdy Eovan skateboards are.

Eovan Board Brand: Smart ESC System

Nevertheless, we did come across some bad comments about Eovan boards online and the majority of them were complaints about their controllers (ESCs). Apparently, Eovan ESCs tend to get faulty after a few weeks — or months — of use.

However, this mostly happens when users try to recalibrate the tool or adjust some of its settings. If you find that your e-skateboard’s controller is faulty or unresponsive, you can reach out to their customer support team for a replacement.

Eovan extends a 6-month warranty to every initial purchaser of their electric skateboards. This warranty covers repairs and replacements for components that come defective from the manufacturer!

What Makes Eovan Unique

Eovan designs some of the most affordable high-powered electric skateboards there are on the market.

Eovan Board Brand: Acceleration

The brand’s design incorporates a revolutionary new technology that enables them to move forward with ease while maintaining stability at high speeds. These boards also incorporate an innovative braking system that allows users to stop quickly without having to use their feet or hands.

The company also makes it easy for users to customize their orders to fit their riding styles. So, for instance, you can purchase street tires if you only plan on riding your e-skateboard on flat roads or off-road tires if you plan on taking your board off-road.

Eovan Board Brand: Tires

There’s even a combination pack that comes with both street and off-road tires for riders who want to explore the best of both worlds. You can also choose the size and design of tires you want to be shipped with your board.

Their e-skateboards are built for heavy-duty purposes and they’re available to riders at budget-friendly prices. Most performance electric skateboards usually cost between $2000 and $3000. All Eovan boards cost under $2000.
