Features of the Anyhill UM-2

Motor and Power

The motor of the Anyhill UM-2 is located in the rear wheel. It is rated at 450W but can hit an appreciable peak power of 750W, which produces 22Nm of torque. This motor is responsible for powering it up steep inclines and handling its impressive payload capacity.

Range

When it comes to distance, riders can get 24 to 28 miles of range from this e-scooter on a single battery charge. Our test clocked 25 miles with a fully charged battery. Its detachable battery is an LG lithium-ion pack rated at 36V/10Ah. You can always get an extra battery if you’re really worried about range.

Speed

The Anyhill UM-2 is not big on speed. The motor on this two-wheeler is capable of propelling it to maximum speeds of 19 miles an hour. With a 180 lbs rider weight, we clocked exactly 19 miles per hour. Note that It also has a cruise control feature with 3 speed modes: 9mph, 14mph, and 19mph.

Performance and Acceleration

This e-scooter is not designed to score high when it comes to speed and acceleration. As mentioned earlier, we’re not surprised as its 450W motor can only deliver a top speed of 19mph. E-scooters with higher-powered motors will perform much better in terms of speed and acceleration.

Climbing Ability

Anyhill states that the UM-2 can power itself up 20% inclines. In degrees, that works out to about 11.4°. That’s good enough for moderately-steep inclines. Steeper hills will require a more powerful motor.

Weight Limit & Net Weight

The Anyhill UM-2 is rated for being able to drag along a total payload of 300lbs. That’s impressive for an e-scooter that weighs just 44lbs (39lbs if you subtract the weight of the battery).

Portability

This electric scooter isn’t only light, it’s also relatively small. With a deck width of 7.3 inches (at the widest end) it doesn’t have the roomiest platform.

It is 46 inches high from ground to handlebars, has a wheelbase of 44.9 inches, and 17.7 inch-wide foldable handlebars. The scooter’s dimensions and weight work together to make it a portable e-scooter.

Build Quality

When compared to the UM-1, the build quality on the UM-2 is actually impressive. It’s got a much sturdier and thicker frame than its predecessor. It’s also built from 6000 series aviation-grade aluminum alloy, which protects well against rust and scratches.

Display and Controls

It’s got a simple circular centralized display where you can check all important readings including ride mode, battery level, current speed, etc. There’s also only one semi-circular button on the control for turning the UM-2 on and off, switching between ride modes, turning on the lights, etc.

Water Resistance

The Anyhill UM-2 has an Ingress Protection rating of IP54. This gives it sufficient protection against performance-inhibiting dust & solid particulates and also ensures that its electronic components are shielded against water splashes from all directions.

Suspension and Tire

It doesn’t have a suspension system. The only protection this scooter provides against trail unevenness are its 10-inch pneumatic tires. These are not fat tires and while they have a decent grip, they are not designed for off-road riding.

Design and Engineering

One thing this e-scooter has going for it is its exceptional engineering. Its solid frame design doesn’t show any screws or ports because they’re all hidden under different slots. It also has a unique latch on the rear fender that pops the battery up from the deck and another latch (along the stem) that promotes easy and convenient folding of the scooter.

Just one pull of that and the stem folds down and locks into place for easy lifting. And then there’s the unique dual-sided kickstand that provides more balance when parked, which is weird given that the front tire lifts off the ground when you engage the kickstand—kind of like an old-school moped.

Other Features

The Anyhill UM-2 features some other impressive qualities. These include K-MARK headlights, taillights, and reflectors. It also adopts a triple braking system. There’s a physical front brake, a rear electric brake controlled with the thumb lever on the left handlebar, and an automatic power cut-off feature for the best possible control and safety.

There’s also an app from Anyhill that lets you control your e-scooter from a smartphone via Bluetooth connection. The manufacturer also installed a horn on the brake lever which is easy to get to with your index finger.

Lifespan, Durability, Defect Rates

Its solid aviation-grade frame and the reliability of its engineering suggest you’ll be able to enjoy this e-scooter for a long time. However, it’s still a relatively new product so there isn’t much data on its lifespan.

AnyHill UM-2 Electric Scooter Review – Issues and Downsides

One of its biggest downsides is that its off-road and hill-climbing abilities are really limited. It also has a small battery and will require that riders get more battery packs to overcome range anxiety. Plus, you have to wait for up to 5 hours to charge each battery pack.

Who is the Anyhill UM-2 For?

If you’re not a fanatic about speed and just need something to convey you around town every once in a while, this electric scooter is a good option for you. It’ll be good for you too if you weigh more than the average rider given its payload capacity.

Who the Anyhill UM-2 Is Not For?

Frequent off-road adventurers should stay away from this one seeing as it doesn’t have the range, battery, speed, tires, or suspension for a truly exhilarating off-road experience.
